[memberonly folders="Members,Vendors,Sponsored"] Integrating Hair Replacement Into a Full Service Salon The Rewarding Transition by Rosario Greco, Owner, Rosario Greco Styles Ltd., Port Perry, Ontario Some people want money, clothes and cars, but some just want hair more than anything. A few years ago, my wife realized she was losing a little bit of her hair. And as scary as it can be to admit, she did. And she needed a solution. At the time, our salon didn’t have the proper resources to help her. It’s hard to truly understand the importance of having attainable resources for hair loss until you’ve been pushed into the world of hair loss. And that’s when we decided to integrate it into our business. Integrating a hair loss clinic into an already existing hair salon was simple, but it wasn’t’ exactly easy. Being a hairdresser for over 30 years, I only thought one way. These clients won’t be coming in for a look, they’re coming in for hair. And you’ll be offering hair options to all sorts of different people, of different ages, with different ailments and situations. Merging hair loss into your expertise challenges you in many ways. First of all, you have to know how to advertise for it. Local magazines, word of mouth, mention it to your clients. Trying to get clients or potential clients to admit they have a hair loss issue is the first obstacle. It’s hard to build a clientele when no one is comfortable enough to come out about it. They might not [...]

By |2018-04-12T14:53:27-05:00March 26th, 2018|Digital Marketing|0 Comments

Website Page Speed to be a Google Ranking Factor: July 2018 When you Google your business and click on your search listing, how long does it take your home page to load on your computer or smartphone? It was recently announced by Google that they will be using website page loading speed as an official ranking factor for mobile searches beginning July 2018. This is when the speed update will take place. This news from Google is big for SEO specialists and business owners alike. The Google page speed update will have a focus on mobile search results and according to Google, it will only affect a small number of keywords or search subjects. What does this mean for Search Engine Rankings? For search engine optimization specialists, this news is nothing unexpected from Google. In 2010 Google had a similar factor for page speed on a desktop web version, so this doesn’t really come as much of a surprise. In recent years, Google has made it clear that fast loading websites are a must if you are to rank well in organic search and get more traffic to your website. When the July 2018 Google page speed update goes into effect, some websites that are currently getting a lot of organic traffic, but have a prolonged loading time will more likely than not find that they will be penalized in Google’s search results (if you were at the top of the first page of Google search results, you may find that you’re not there any [...]

Folliculitis Can Cause Permanent Hair Loss

By |2018-03-26T12:08:56-05:00March 26th, 2018|Hair Loss, Healthy Hair|0 Comments

Folliculitis Can Cause Permanent Hair Loss Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicle. Folliculitis can occur anywhere on the body that has hair. When it occurs on your scalp though, it can put the long-term health of your hair in jeopardy. The inflammation that occurs can cause permanent hair loss, but most cases of folliculitis only cause temporary hair loss. The hair quickly grows back with proper treatment that works to prevent hair follicle scarring. How to Identify Folliculitis When folliculitis appears on your scalp, it often looks like raised, small, red bumps. These bumps can be itchy and even though they can appear anywhere on your scalp, they often can be concentrated along your hairline. When folliculitis beings, you can expect to see a red ring around the base of your hair follicles. As the condition worsens your hair will begin to fall out. Like rashes, you never want to scratch these bumps. Doing so can cause them the become more sore and that can cause them to form a crust over the bumps. Because this condition can cause hair loss it is not uncommon that you develop areas of patchy hair loss. If you develop scalp folliculitis at the base of your scalp, you many have a type of folliculitis known as keloidalis. This uncommon condition is a combination of cicatricial alopecia and folliculitis. If left untreated this can develop into hairless keloids to develop on the scalp. There are a few known cases that a condition called acne necrotica has developed. [...]

40 Years & Counting: How to Throw an Open House to Remember

40 Years & Counting! How to Throw an Open House to Remember We have all heard it a million times. Where did the time go? It’s been a labor of love, laughter, pain and tears and there we were, planning Hair Styles Unlimited’s 40th Anniversary Party. We had a few hurdles to overcome before we could seriously think about such an event. Even though we have 3,000 sq. ft. of working space full of equipment, I figured we would need more space for the celebration. How will we entertain our guests? What food should we serve? Plus, we are short a stylist and a nail technician, so we have less people to help. I really had my doubts as to whether I wanted to tackle this on an already hectic schedule, but we live in the New Orleans area, but “What the Heck,” we never pass up a chance to have a party. The day of the party came and aside from caterers being late (they were coming in the back door as our guests were walking in the front) the event was a huge success. We sold a ton of product, makeup, hair and skin care products and gift certificates. We gave away door prizes every 10 minutes, and shared information with everyone present.  READ MORE
